Ms. Mahathi Mahabhashyam is a seasoned engineering leader with nearly two decades of experience driving technological innovation, leading large-scale engineering teams, and delivering high-impact solutions across diverse industries, including fintech, cloud computing, and AI. Specializing in platform engineering, AI services, network protocols, and client runtimes, she excels in building scalable architectures and leading the transformation of systems into next-generation, AI-driven platforms.

Currently serving as Senior Vice President and Head of Engineering at Nium India Pvt Ltd, a Series-E cross-border payments startup, she leads the engineering division of a high-growth B2B fintech company operating across 190+ countries. She spearheads the company’s data transformation efforts to be a data-first, AI-driven platform. Additionally, she drives the vision for the platform’s next-generation architecture, focusing on scalability, multi-tenancy, and observability.

Before joining Nium, she spent several years at Uber, where she led critical engineering teams across various high-impact initiatives. As a Director of Engineering leading the Customer Obsession Platform team, she focused on machine learning, agent experiences, and creating personalized AI-driven solutions to enhance Uber’s global customer support operations. She also oversaw cross-product services and machine-learning efforts related to payments, identity, and risk management. Her leadership in Uber’s Risk Platform was particularly notable for its success in developing high-scale, real-time fraud detection and safety systems, achieving five-nines availability across critical services. She also led several diversity and inclusion initiatives, including the development of uReturn, a program designed to support women returning to the workforce after career breaks.

Prior to her tenure at Uber, she was a Principal Engineering Manager at Microsoft, where she led the development of platforms for Retail Data/AI and Energy industries as part of the Azure for Commercial Industries team. She also played a pivotal role in scaling the Azure DevOps Search platform, which serves millions of users globally. In addition to her work at Microsoft, Mahathi’s earlier career includes positions at Google, where she contributed to theGoogle Apps for Business team, and Amazon, where she interned and worked on product development for Skype for Business and .NET Compact Framework.

She holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Stanford University, with a specialization in Systems and a 4.0+ CGPA. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Osmania University, where she was a University Gold Medalist. 

With her deep technical background and global experience, she is passionate about mentoring engineers and building high-performance teams that deliver customer-centric, scalable solutions. Her leadership philosophy centers around investing in great teams—empowering them to be autonomous, customer-focused, and self-motivated. She believes that strong teams, united by a common vision, can overcome even the most difficult challenges and create transformative products. Her proudest moments include seeing her mentees and team members excel in their careers, which she views as the ultimate reward of leadership.

Outside work, she is a light music singer and performs at shows with her family. She is also an ardent sci-fi fan, and loves traveling and exploring new places.
