He did his B.Ed. from Meerut University and post graduate (M.Sc) from MMH College, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. In the last seventeen years of his association with the development sector, he has worked in different capacities on the issue of education, skill development and livelihoods, violence against women, scheme entitlement, homeless, declining child sex ratio among others. His field of specialization includes public education, policy advocacy, media advocacy, community outreach, project formulation and management, networking, alliance building and running campaigns.
He started his work as a volunteer in 1999 in the field of education when he took up the challenge of teaching a group of boys from the marginalized and underprivileged communities of North-East Delhi. At the place where he lived in his early days (Mustafabad, North-East Delhi) education for girls was seen as a taboo. He noticed that girls were deliberately not sent to schools and were married off in their early age. He then started visiting homes to counsel their parents and also offered boy students to bring in their sisters along with them and get the tuition fee waved off.A few months later, he had as many as 150 girl students with hi,.
While teaching them, he came across several critical issues pertaining to the communities such as their livelihoods, domestic violence etc. Addressing these concerns was not possible without a team of volunteers andtherefore, he decided to start a non-profit community based organization in North-East Delhi.
In 2004, he set up an NGO called, Sofia Educational and Welfare Society in Yamuna Vihar, Delhi and offered various vocational courses and skill development training for women and girls like embroidery, tailoring, computer training, calligraphy and connected them with livelihoods. Further, Sofia also started holding classes on personality development and career guidance. Today, more than 4000 girls are attending the classes on a regular basis at Sofia Vocational Training Centres which are situated at 8 different locations either free of cost or by paying a minimum fee.
They closely work with the survivors of rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment and deal with dowry harassment cases on a day to day basis. He has made a team of 250 community women who visits communities in North-East Delhi to help the victims and counsel both men and women. In cases where the husbands do not compromise, they provide legal help to the women and help them get alimony.
In the last Seventeen years, he has also made efforts to promote Urdu and Arabic languages as well as calligraphy. The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language had supported them throughout in their endeavor.
