Dr. (Prof.) Raju Vaishya is a unique and rare combination of being a highly successful clinician and a researcher from India. He is the Professor and Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi for the past 25 years. He has not only performed more than 15,000 joint surgeries but has also published more than 600 scientific research papers during his 35 years of professional career. He is also associated with many reputed National and International medical journals, as an Editor-in-Chief and Editorial board member and has helped several young generation doctors to develop an interest in Research.
Dr. Vaishya has had an outstanding academic career, bagged several gold medals and distinctions during his medical education as an MBBS student, and was also the ‘topper’ of his batch of 150 students. He completed the prestigious M.Ch. degree of the University of Liverpool, UK in 1990, and became the youngest student ever to have passed this exam at the age of 30 years! He was awarded the FRCS, and FACS degrees.
Dr. Vaishya has held several important administrative posts, viz. President, Secretary, and Treasurer of Indian Cartilage Society, Founder President of Arthritis Care Foundation, He was appointed as a ‘Distinguished Clinical Tutor’ and Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedics of Apollo Hospitals.
He has been a recipient of several prestigious International and National Academic Awards like Dr. B.C. Roy Oration Award, Pride of Asia International Award, SIEMENS-GAPIO innovation award in Medicine, Distinguished Researcher Award, and Professor’s gold medal for the best research, at Oswestry, Birmingham Univeristy, UK.
