Legendry Actor Amitabh Bachchan was presented with Indian cinema’s highest honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, in a special ceremony in Delhi on December 29 by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Shri Bachchan proudly said, “He has nothing but gratitude and affection for the people of the country.”
His wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek accompanied him to the event.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award , highest honour for an artist in Indian cinema comprises a Swarna Kamal medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees. The award was conferred upon late actor Vinod Khanna in the year 2017.
Bachchan wrote on Twitter, “My gratitude and my affection to the people of this great country, India for this recognition.” In a career spanning five decades, Bachchan has stayed at the top, surprising fans with memorable performances film after film.
The government honoured Bachchan with the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to the arts.
Few days ago the actor was supposed to receive the honour at the National Film Awards ceremony but he was unable to attend due to ill health.
