Smt. Droupadi Murmu is all set to occupy the Rashtrapati Bhavan as India’s 15th President, on Monday, i.e., the 25th of July, 2022. At 64, she will be the youngest of all the Presidents India has ever had. This is the second time that India will be witnessing a woman President after Smt. Pratibha Patil. She is the first member of the Santhal tribe to assume the highest office of the country.
Smt. Murmu is a self-made woman. Hailing from a tribal background, where educating a girl child was considered a taboo, she broke all the stereotypes, completed her education and worked as an educator before entering the mainstream politics. She is the only Governor of Jharkhand to have completed a full tenure till date. She has held various portfolios such as Transport and Commerce, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
During her tenure as the Governor of Jharkhand, Smt. Murmu returned the bills of the CNT (Chhota Nagpur Tenancy) Act and the SPT (Santhal Pargana Tenancy) Act, which the Adivasis believed that would limit their rights over land and this decision gained her huge appreciation and respect, thereby winning many hearts!
Congratulating Smt. Murmu on her victory, Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi said that a daughter hailing from a tribal community will be a ray of hope for poor and the marginalized. Her victory is seen as the victory of representation. As Smt. Murmu will be taking charge as the 15th President of India, she is seen as the torchbearer to the struggling communities, mainly the Adivasis, so that they are given equal opportunities according to their potential.
From a School Teacher to winning the Presidential Elections, Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s swearing in is seen as an era of development in all aspects.
Therefore, Welcome Madam Murmu!
