Tokyo Olympics: Mirabai Chanu bagged Silver Medal in weightlifting

Opening at the Tokyo Olympics was historic and elating for India as Mirabai Chanu won a Silver medal in the 49 kg category in weightlifting. The netizens have congratulated the athlete in humungous numbers through their social media handles. 

The 27 year old had won the silver medal in the women’s 48 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow; she went on to break the games record en route to the gold medal at the 2018 edition of the event held in Gold Coast. Her biggest achievement came in 2017, when she won the gold medal at World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim, California. 

She has been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2018 by President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. 

Mirabai lifted 202kg in the 49kg category. Not only natives but big brands such as Amul have praised her for the win. In the proceeding of the global event, 25 members from the Indian contingent will attend Tokyo Olympics’ Opening Ceremony in Japan. India awaits many more wins at the Tokyo Olympics
